In Episode 8, Dr. Datar shared his remarkable journey as a senior gynecologist, law graduate, and passionate health rights activist. The discussion highlighted Dr. Datar’s pivotal role in advocating for "death with dignity." He was among the first in India to file an advance directive, and his landmark Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Bombay High Court has reshaped perspectives on euthanasia. Furthermore, the session explored his legal activism in reproductive rights, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to empowering women and ensuring patient-centric healthcare policies.
In Episode 7, Dr. Sunil Shroff discussed his pioneering work in organ donation and transplantation in India. As the Founder of MOHAN Foundation, he has been instrumental in improving organ donation rates and awareness. The workshop explored innovations in deceased donation, public health impact, and the leadership needed to drive change in transplantation practices.
In Episode 6, Dr. Abhay Bang shared his impactful contributions to public health, including his pioneering Home-based Newborn Care (HBNC) model, which has reduced infant mortality rates. The session highlighted his accolades, such as the Maharashtra Bhushan Award and being named a Global Health Hero by TIME Magazine. Dr. Bang’s advocacy for tribal health and leadership in anti-alcohol movements have significantly influenced community health and public health policy.
Episode 5 featured Dr. Surya Bali, who discussed his innovative approach to health awareness by translating critical scientific information about diseases like Cholera and AIDS into regional languages such as Bhojpuri and Awadhi. His creative use of songs and poems has made these health messages more engaging and accessible, highlighting the transformative power of music in spreading essential public health knowledge.
In Episode 4, we had the privilege of hosting Dr. Venkatesh Thuppil, known as the "Lead Man of India." During this enlightening conversation, Dr. Thuppil shared his journey leading the 'Project Lead Free' initiative, which was instrumental in transitioning India to unleaded petrol. We delved into his extensive efforts in lead awareness and prevention, discussing the challenges and achievements in enhancing public health standards and driving policy changes to protect communities from lead exposure.
We invited Mr. Tazin Shadid in Episode 3 to share how Spreeha supports underprivileged communities through healthcare, education, and skills training. Our discussion focused on their inclusive approach in Bangladesh and globally, providing essential resources for community growth and highlighting their impactful work in humanitarian support, social awareness, and sustainable empowerment.
Episode 2 of Health Parliament Innovation Lab featured Mr. Govind Singh Rathore. Through education, health workshops, self-defence training, and entrepreneurship, Sambhali Trust empowered women with the skills and resources to become independent. The session also covered how Sambhali Trust supported victims of domestic violence and funded critical medical care, highlighting the lasting change they have brought to the community.
